My training and approach is in psychodynamic psychotherapy but my style can be described as relational.  I offer a warm, non-judgmental and safe space for us to talk together about what is troubling you.  I help you to make sense of your feelings and experiences for enhanced self awareness and understanding with a positive impact on your self esteem.  When distressed, talking about your issues can be a real relief, although it is also very daunting to take the first step.  It normally takes one or two sessions for us both to get a sense for the issues and how best to move forward.   If you are interested in exploring therapy further, please contact me using the form below for a free introductory phone call to discuss your needs and how I might best help you.

Therapy can help with relationship issues, loss and bereavement, anxiety, depression, infertility, identity issues, illness, distant or recent trauma and any sudden change or upheaval in your life.  You do not need a particular difficulty in life to prompt you to come to therapy.  Most come for a greater understanding of themselves, seeking to make sense of repeating patterns and themes in their life.

While I primarily engage in open-ended, longer-term therapy, I also provide time-limited sessions for up to 12 weeks for those new to therapy or for those wishing to focus on a particular area such as a recent loss or change in circumstance.

I am registered with and adhere to the code of ethics specified by the UKCP, BPC and BACP.

What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy?

Psychodynamic therapy is a talking therapy that explores how your experiences in the past influence and shape your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in the present.  The aim is to increase self-awareness to enable positive change.  Rooted in Freudian psychoanalytic theory it is less intense in practice and incorporates a wide theoretical legacy from Klein, Bion, Winnicott, Bowlby and Jungian Analytical Psychology to current modern analytical thinking.  The common thread in the theoretical models used is a recognition of unconscious processes at work in our lives.
